The Governing Board is made up of parent, community and staff Governors.  Governance is a key part of a successful school and Governors work in partnership with the Academy in support of the school’s vision. The Governing Board has three core functions:

• Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
• Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its students
• Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure money is well spent

Governors attend Governing Board meetings every term with the ongoing business discussed by smaller committees.

At The Axholme Academy we have 2 sub-committees which meet termly.
The committees are:

• Finance, Risk and Audit
• Standards

In addition to the above sub-committees, the Finance, Risk and Audit committee have a sub-committee to support the review of performance management outcomes including that of the principal.

Governors also monitor and support the core elements of safeguarding, special educational and medical needs and looked after children. The Finance Responsible Officer conducts independent reviews of the financial systems and processes.

Governors also have the opportunity to visit the Academy during the school day. This allows them see the policies, procedures and priorities in action through observations, and speaking to staff and students.
