Research has shown that many successful people in the world today, held positions of responsibility whilst they were at school.

We encourage students to play an active role in our Academy, offering the opportunity to take up leadership roles at various stages of their learning journey. Below are the roles that students can aspire to, during their time here with us.

Head Students

The Head Student is a key leadership role at The Axholme Academy. They act as a positive role model and ambassador, representing students and promoting the Academy’s values and ethos.

They help build strong relationships between students and staff by sharing student views, ideas and concerns. They also represent the Academy at events such as open evenings and community activities, speaking confidently and respectfully.

The Head Student supports and motivates other students, contributes to Academy initiatives and helps organise events. They are expected to demonstrate excellent behaviour, attendance and punctuality while supporting younger students and setting a positive example.

A successful Head Student should be confident, responsible, reliable and enthusiastic, with strong leadership and communication skills. They should work well both independently and as part of a team and show a genuine commitment to the Academy community.

 

Senior River Captains 

Every Form Group elects a Captain who is approachable, dependable and willing to listen to their peers. Captains bring students’ ideas, views and concerns to Student Council Meetings.

The Student Council discusses issues that affect students, from sports facilities and Academy events to uniform ideas. Each year, students also have the opportunity to vote in a whole-school referendum, giving everyone a voice in Academy-wide decisions.

Senior River Captains take on an enhanced leadership role, helping to represent the wider student body, support Form Captains and ensure that student voices are heard across the Academy.

Sports Leaders

Students with a passion for sport are encouraged to become sports leaders. Excellent training and organisational skills are key to this role, which is an excellent opportunity to develop leadership skills for the future.  Throughout the year, you may lead, referee or umpire at a range of Primary Sporting events both on site and off site.  Run lunchtime and after-school sports clubs, be lead learners in PE lessons (leading warm-ups, assisting with equipment) or assisting with Inter-River competitions.

We are looking for students who are passionate about sport and demonstrate confidence, strong communication and teamwork skills, as well as good organisation and a willingness to take on responsibility.

  

 

Transition Leaders

Our Transition Leaders play an important role in supporting and inspiring younger students across the school. They help students with their transition into secondary school, act as mentors to Year 7 students and provide positive role models for students across Key Stage 3.  Transition Leaders may also lead mentor sessions, deliver assemblies during Anti-Bullying Week and support students during break and lunchtime.

Students who are compassionate, understanding and positive, with a willingness to develop their leadership and communication skills are encouraged to apply for this role. They should have excellent listening skills, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to support others, which are key qualities for this role.

 

Wellbeing Ambassadors 

Our Wellbeing Ambassadors play an important role in promoting positive wellbeing and creating a supportive and inclusive school community. They may support younger students with their wellbeing and mental health, help to run sports and homework clubs, assist with ELSA support and contribute to whole-school initiatives such as the Sponsored Walk and Anti-Bullying Week. Wellbeing Ambassadors may also help to deliver wellbeing assemblies and promote positive mental health across the school. This role provides students with an opportunity to develop their leadership, communication and listening skills while making a positive difference to the wellbeing of others.

Reading Mentor

As a Reading Mentor, you will be a positive role model and reading ambassador across the school. Your main goal is to promote a culture of reading for pleasure, inspire others to engage with books, and help bring reading to life through events, clubs, and activities.

This is a great opportunity to develop leadership, communication, and organisational skills while sharing your love of reading with the wider school community.

Prom Committee

The Prom Committee is a team of Year 11 students who work together to help plan and deliver a memorable and successful prom for their year group.

Committee members will bring enthusiasm, creativity and new ideas, while demonstrating excellent communication, listening and teamwork skills. They will act as a voice for their fellow Year 11 students, liaise with staff, contribute to decision-making and help organise fundraising activities to support the cost of the prom.

Being part of the Prom Committee is a great opportunity to take on responsibility, develop valuable leadership and teamwork skills, and make a positive contribution to an important event in the Year 11 calendar.
